The Tarkington VFD received a $36,000 grant from the Texas Forest Service for a CAFS skid unit in December 2010. The decision was made to use the grant towards purchasing a complete truck. Specifications were compiled and a request for bids went out. In March 2011, Freedom Fire Equipment awarded us the contract and the truck was delivered in September 2011. The truck is the first responding unit on wildland and automobile fires. With it’s auxiliary engine powered pump, it can pump and roll. The CAF system greatly enhances the firefighting capabilities.

The Tarkington VFD purchased this unit in June 2001 and it was delivered in October 2001.  This truck replaced the 1981 Dodge which was destroyed in a fire in February 2001. The truck is the first responding unit on ground fires. With it’s auxiliary engine powered pump, it can pump and roll. The onboard foam system means Class A foam can be used on brush fires, extending the firefighting capabilities.
